We all look to famous people to motivate us, to give us stories that we can admire and look to when making decisions about our own lives. That’s especially true at work: People at the top of a company, or managers directly above us, can provide direction and examples for us to follow, either in education or choices about positions to take.
Unfortunately for a long time, when it came to careers in science, technology, engineering, and math, those role models for women were few and far between. That’s changing, ever so slowly though, as more and more women break into these careers and keep working their way up the management chain in STEM fields.
Of course, where you find women in STEM changes by location and availability. Some fields have heavier percentages of women and better male:female ratios, too. But women in STEM are doing all sorts of cool, interesting work. This graphic showcases just a few of them.
